What is BFT?

Blue Fire Theatricals was founded with the intention of doing one thing: empowering creatives to tell honest stories that bring us in touch with our humanity.

At BFT, we are committed to working with artists in all stages of their artistic journeys. We believe that joy should lead our work, and the joy of following one’s passion is what truly gives audiences a reason to cheer. Allowing oneself to empathize with others leads to life-changing experiences that fundamentally change and shape who we are as people.

Education is the foundation of our approach to theatre-making, and it is what drives our staff in every aspect of our work. We believe in teaching the core aspects of storytelling in all our classes and rehearsals. These core tenants allow for authentic collaboration between artists–collaborations that allow us to create performances tailored to the human experience.

Our Programs

Blue Fire's foundational approach to theatre-making is grounded in the core concepts of telling stories. We believe in teaching the core aspects of storytelling using theatre in our classes and rehearsals. Our core tenants allow for authentic collaboration between our professional artists and our students, allowing students to walk away with not only a better understanding of why we do theatre the way we do, but with a greater understanding of their fellow students.

Blue Fire is committed to giving new artists the space to grow and challenge our perceptions of what stories we should tell and how we should tell them. We encourage collaboration at all stages of theatre making. Our productions lead with empathy and curiosity about the human experience. We are interested in subverting tropes and cracking open why we experience the world the way we do, both as a community and as individual humans.

Testimonials

“I am so glad I spent my summer working with Blue Fire Theatricals. Working with director Hannah M’Lynn shaped the way I look at and understand who my characters are. This has allowed me to better portray those characters on stage. My experience with Blue Fire furthered this perspective and helped me to become a better, more confident actor. In other unrelated productions where I am unsure how to handle a character, I stop and think back to my work with Hannah and Blue Fire and ask myself: “What would I do if this was Blue Fire?” It's amazing how much I've been able get out of a character with just that question. The community is also very strong. You get to know everyone there very well. Both the cast and the production staff are fantastic people who create a positive, upbeat, and sometimes wacky environment that still manages to get a show running faster and more efficiently than you'd expect. When rehearsal ended each day, I couldn't wait for the next one! If you already have experience in theater or you've never stepped on a stage before, don't be shy! 2022’s “Charlie Brown” was one of my favorite productions that I've been a part of, and I guarantee you will learn a lot from your time at Blue Fire!”

“During my high school years, BFT’s director, Hannah, played a pivotal role in my artistic development, being a strong and reliable leader in multiple organizations. After a tumultuous time in my program's history, her tenure as director provided not only quality shows, but most importantly, a positive environment that taught me not only how to to develop my on-stage character or how to move across the stage, but also how to speak publicly in ways that I use to this day.”
